What are solid fiber slip sheets?
Q: Are solid fiber slip sheets the same as cardboard slip sheets? A: They’re closely related but not identical. Solid fiber slip sheets are made from densely compressed layers of paperboard with no internal fluting, making them a specific type of cardboard slip sheet. Corrugated slip sheets, by contrast, have a fluted interior layer. Solid fiber offers superior tensile strength and moisture resistance compared to corrugated options, making it the preferred choice for heavier loads and humid environments.
Q: Do I need special equipment to use slip sheets? A: Yes. Your forklift must be equipped with a push-pull attachment, which grips the protruding lip of the slip sheet and pulls the load onto the forks. It’s important to note that every facility handling the load — including your receiving partners — also needs push-pull equipped forklifts. Confirm downstream compatibility before making the switch.
Q: Why use slip sheets instead of pallets? A: Slip sheets offer several advantages over traditional wood pallets. They weigh a fraction of what a pallet does, reducing shipping costs and CO2 emissions per load. They’re significantly cheaper per unit, and hundreds can be stored in the space occupied by just a few pallets. Because they’re paper-based, they’re ISPM-15 exempt — meaning no heat treatment or fumigation is required for international export. They’re also 100% recyclable. The main tradeoff is that load handling with push-pull attachments is slower than standard forklift operation, and slip sheets aren’t ideal for very heavy or unstable loads.
